“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31
The simplest, most disruptive sentence in our daily life is this one. Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Most of us live divided lives. There is the part we offer to God — Sunday morning, quiet time, the moments we remember to pray — and the part we live for ourselves, our careers, our pleasures. Paul, in 1 Corinthians 10:31, will have none of this. He puts eating in the verse. He puts drinking in the verse. He puts whatever in the verse. There is no part of life that is not eligible for the glory of God.
This is liberating and convicting in equal measure. Liberating because it means your job — whatever it is — is sacred ground. Convicting because it means your job — whatever it is — is also accountable. The way you treat your colleagues, the integrity of your work, the words you say in meetings, the ways you spend money, the patience you show your spouse and children — all of it is liturgy.
At TCE we pray that every cup we serve, every bag we sell, every shift we run, every learner we train, every prayer request we receive, every gift we receive, will be done for the glory of God. Not because we manage it perfectly — we do not. Because that is what we were made for.
You were made for it too. The smallest act of obedience today — done in His name — is gold in heaven’s economy.
Soli Deo Gloria. To God alone be the glory. From the espresso bar to your inbox to your kitchen table to your knees beside your bed tonight. Amen.
Soli Deo Gloria — To God alone be the glory.
