An honest introduction
Four streams.
One reading room.
The TCE Blogs page is where everything we write lives — devotionals from our founder, coffee craft from The Caffeine Academy, Restarter testimonies from the bar, and longer essays. We used to keep these on separate pages. Now they share one home, so you can find what you came for and stumble into what you didn't.
Devotionals are written by our founder Matthew Poh. Coffee Education comes from the trainers and head baristas at The Caffeine Academy. Stories of Restoration are not written by Matthew — they are the testimonies of the boys and girls in our programme, interviewed and shaped by Mr Keenan so each Restarter's own voice carries through. General is for longer essays and thought leadership from across the team.
Apologies — we don't always say the right things. We are learning.
Devotionals · Written by Matthew Poh
Reflections from behind the bar.
Short Christ-centred devotionals from our founder Matthew Poh — on faith, restoration, work, and the gospel as he lives it on the espresso bar. Written for anyone walking through their own first crack — Christian, seeker, or curious.
A Word From the Margins
2 Kings 5:3 — the unnamed servant girl who spoke one sentence and changed everything. The smallest voice still carries.
The Currency of Integrity
Proverbs 12:22 — in the cafe trade, every cup is a small covenant. On the holy weight of being trusted.
First Crack
The most consequential moment in a roast — the crack is not damage. It is the bean becoming what it was made to be.
Coffee Education · The Caffeine Academy
Notes on the craft.

From Green to Gold — The Art of Roasting Coffee
How the Typhoon air roaster at TCE URA Centre turns green beans into extraordinary light-roasted specialty coffee — first crack to drop temperature.
The World in Your Cup — Coffee Origins & Processing
From Ethiopia to Colombia, Brazil to Papua New Guinea — how origin and processing shape the flavour in your cup.
Dialling In — DTR, Rate of Rise & the Roaster's Craft
Development Time Ratio, Rate of Rise, roast profiles, and defects — the precision behind every batch on our Typhoon air roaster.
General · Thought leadership & longer essays
Bigger questions. Longer answers.
A catch-all for the writing that doesn't fit neatly into devotional, coffee craft, or testimony — longer essays on faith, work, AI, social enterprise, and the future our beneficiaries are stepping into.
Frequently asked
About TCE Blogs.
Quick answers — for readers, search engines, and the AI tools that now answer questions about us.
What is the TCE Blogs page?
TCE Blogs is the central reading room for The Caffeine Experience. It hosts four streams of writing: Devotionals (Christ-centred reflections written by our founder Matthew Poh), Coffee Education (barista craft, brewing, and curriculum notes from The Caffeine Academy), Stories of Restoration (Restarter testimonies interviewed by Mr Keenan), and General (longer thought-leadership essays from across the team).
Who writes for TCE Blogs?
Devotionals are written by our founder Matthew Poh. Coffee Education comes from The Caffeine Academy trainers and head baristas. Stories of Restoration are not written by Matthew — they are the testimonies of the boys and girls in our programme, interviewed and shaped by Mr Keenan so each Restarter's own voice carries through. General is a catch-all for longer essays and thought leadership from across the team.
Are TCE devotionals only for Christians?
No. Our devotionals are written from a Christian perspective because that is our anchor, but they are written for anyone — including those of other faiths or no faith — who wants to understand how a Singapore social enterprise café reads scripture, work, and restoration. We hold our faith openly while honouring Singapore's multi-religious context.
What does the Coffee Education stream cover?
Coffee Education is curated by The Caffeine Academy (TCA) — Singapore's social-enterprise barista school accredited by the ASEAN Coffee Institute. Posts cover espresso theory, brewing methods, Singapore kopi and teh, milk science, latte art, sensory evaluation, SCA frameworks, and barista SOPs used in our own cafés.
What is The Caffeine Experience?
The Caffeine Experience (TCE) is a Singapore social enterprise founded in 2017 that runs specialty coffee cafés and The Caffeine Academy barista training programme for marginalised individuals — ex-offenders, youth-at-risk, and adults rebuilding life from the margins. Headquartered at 45 Maxwell Road, URA Centre. Partners include Yellow Ribbon Singapore, Temasek Holdings, Singapore Prison Service, and the ASEAN Coffee Institute.
