Carry Each Other

Carry Each Other
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

There is no version of the Christian life that is solo. Galatians 6:2 closes off that option. The law of Christ — the great fulfilment of love — is fulfilled in the carrying of one another’s burdens.

This is an inconvenient verse. Singapore is a culture that prizes self-sufficiency, achievement, the appearance of having it together. Asking for help is socially expensive. The result is that many of us carry, in private, more than the gospel ever intended us to carry alone.

Our team has learned, slowly, that the bar can be a confessional. Not a sacramental one — a relational one. People tell baristas things they have not told anyone in months. The man at table 3 is lonely. The woman in line is grieving. The teenager in the corner is afraid of his own mind.

We do not have a programme for this. We have presence. We have patience. We have the willingness to say, “Tell me more,” and then to actually listen. Sometimes we pray with people. Sometimes we just bear witness. Both are ministry.

Who are you carrying this week? And who is carrying you? If you cannot answer either question, both are an invitation. The Christian life is not heavy because Jesus did not design it to be. It is heavy because we have forgotten we are meant to bear it together.

Find your people. Tell them the truth. Then carry.

Soli Deo Gloria — To God alone be the glory.
