Mark 6:6–13

King James Version

“And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;” — Mark 6:7

New American Standard Bible 1995

“And He summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits;” — Mark 6:7

English Standard Version

“And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits.” — Mark 6:7

For many years, I liked to do things alone. In my early business days, I believed I was faster on my own. No need to explain, no need to wait, no need to share. But walking alone also meant falling alone. When my addiction took hold, nobody was close enough to see it. I hid it well, and I paid for it dearly.

So when I read Mark 6, one small phrase stops me: two by two. Jesus could have sent twelve men to twelve villages and covered more ground. Instead He sent them in pairs. He knew the road would be hard. There would be doors shut in their faces, hungry nights and people who would not listen. One man alone might give up. Two could pick each other up, correct each other’s mistakes and push each other on.

And look what happened. They preached that people should repent. They cast out demons and healed the sick. With Christ’s authority and each other beside them, they did what neither could have done alone. They carried no bread, no bag, no money. They had only His word and each other, and it was enough.

I have seen this in my own life. When TCE was just a dream and a small café at URA, SY stood next to me. On days when the takings were poor, or a Restarter we had trusted walked out, she was the one who said, “Never mind, we carry on.” When I was too tired to pray, she prayed for both of us. I learnt that two are better than one in our HDB kitchen, not in a classroom.

I see it at Changi too. At Crossroads we seldom go in alone. After a heavy Bible study, there is someone beside you on the long MRT ride home. And next month, when Brian joins TCE full time, I believe the load will not just be shared. God will multiply it.

So let me ask you. Are you walking alone today? Maybe you are a Restarter who feels nobody understands. Maybe you are carrying a family, a job or a ministry by yourself, telling everyone, “I’m okay lah.” Who has God already placed beside you that you have kept at arm’s length? And whose road could you walk with this week?

Stop for a moment. Name that person before God. Then send the message. Make the call.

Jesus never meant you to go alone. He sends us two by two, and He goes with us.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I have tried to walk alone out of pride or fear. Thank You for the people You have placed beside me. Open my eyes to the partners You are giving me today, and make me a faithful partner to someone else. Send us out together in Your name, and do through us what we could never do alone. Amen.

Soli Deo Gloria

“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.” — Ecclesiastes 4:9 (KJV)
